Emmanuelle Alt is the new Carine Roitfeld

i'm going to swim with the tides and also make my own special announcement (already posted here, here, & here) that Vogue Paris' fashion director EMMANUELLE ALT is now stepping up & taking the vacant space that CARINE ROITFELD left as editor in chief, effective February 1. this comes as no surprise. Alt has been with the mag since late 2000, and after ten years of doing such a great job, she's finally getting to have her name at the top of the masthead in the April issue of Vogue Paris. wow, there IS such thing as moving up in the magazine world. i now have hope.

i've always loved her style, as seen in one of this blog's earlier posts, here. but in spirit of this new news, i'll do homage to Emmanuelle, part deux.

ADIEU, CARINE

after 10 fabulous years of being the editor in chief of French Vogue, CARINE ROITFELD is saying good bye to her throne as editrix and waving hello to something...new.

"It's 10 years that I'm editor of the magazine," Ms. Roitfeld, one of the most influential editors in the fashion business, said in a telephone interview with journalist Cathy Horyn. "I think it's time to do something different."

French Vogue would not have been the same without her. Roitfeld's first cover (as EIC, in which she also styled), was of Kate Moss, shot even then by Mario Testino, for the February 2001 issue. while flipping through the editorial spread, Noir & Blanc, i couldn't help but notice how ahead of her time the styling was. so minimalist and modern, this easily could have been a February 2010 shoot. this just goes to show how talented Carine really is.

"I had so much freedom to do everything I wanted. I think I did a good job." But she added, "When everything is good, maybe I think it's the time to do something else."

Leaving while still on top, and with such style, Carine will be with the magazine until January 2011 (and in magazine time, that means she'll be overseeing up until the March issue).

Whatever she decides to do, I don't doubt it'll be innovative, inspiring, and unexpected -- much like her and her style.

adieu, chérie!

TIME's top 10 fashion statements of 2010

typically when i hear the phrase "fashion statement," i imagine looks like innerwear as outerwear (tastefully), color blocking with odd color combinations (yet it works), ball gowns at casual events, menswear on women, and Anna dello Russo.

yet as i was clicking through TIME's top 10 fashion statements of 2010 within their Top 10 Everything of 2010 lists, i quickly realized that TIME made a little word choice error.

i deem the following the top 10 fashion DISASTERS of 2010.

#1 on the list: lady gaga's meat dress, head piece, and moon boots at the vma's
rihanna's disastrous blonde bowl cut hair atop of a disastrous green grad gown/jumpsuit
britney spears. 'nuff said.
tom hanks' wife, rita, in an attempt to pull off prada whilst pregnant! not good.
little tay slowly ruining her career, one dog collar at a time

good thing the new year is right around the corner -- please let 2011 be a chance for these ladies to redeem themselves.

SWEET NOVEMBER

My 2010 was spent traveling around the world -- england, france, spain, vietnam, and thailand -- it's no wonder why this year has flown by so quickly! So here we are, day one of November 2010 and I am soo excited about this holiday season, and especially really looking forward to 2011.

A trend for the chilly months to come?

FURRR.

no need to go over the top, no need for real fur (there's aplenty of faux options out there), and no need to channel Chanel's Big Foot costume. a furry accent here, or a foxy jacket there -- decadence in moderation is always classy.
